New Yorkers are incredibly progressive people. So are the authorities of this huge city. To modernize it would take years, but that’s not what the mayor is scared of. On the contrary, the budget is being invested in new projects. One of them is making New York as bicycle-friendly as possible. Besides the public transport, millions of private cars and taxis people are now able to ride their bikes. To make the city cleaner is one of the key goals and it seems that New Yorkers are making some progress. Cyclists can be seen all around the city. People have got used to riding their bicycles to and from work and school. Commuters can now feel much better – they improve their health, save the environment and save quite some money since they do not need to buy tickets to use the public transport or gas to fill up their cars.

4. Budapest, Hungary

Budapest has achieved a lot in the past ten years or so. The city authorities have invested plenty of budget and effort to make the city more comfortable and beautiful. Nowadays both local people and tourists alike love the city for what it offers. Who would have thought that Budapest will become a second Amsterdam with hundred people riding bicycles! To make the government believe that people need this transport was not very easy. It all started 30 years ago, when a small group of enthusiasts did a bicycle rally through the city. Their mission was to raise interest in the transport. Currently, there are plenty of bicycle lanes and people feel happy to ride their bikes. Now Budapest is included in the list of the most bicycle-friendly locations in the world.
