3. What Purpose Did Costumes Serve?

When did people decide that they need to dress in costumes during this celebration? This is probably the only holiday when people go totally crazy and dress up in incredible costumes, use bright makeup and put on masks and wigs. The main purpose was actually to disguise people. In ancient times people celebrated Samhain. The Celts believed that on that day all dead people walked the planet. They used costumes to blend in with the dead so that none of the evil spirits would recognize them.

Where in the World can one find the capital of Halloween? It is considered that this city is located in the United States of America. The name of the town is Salem. This is the area full of the darkest beliefs and witchcraft. Now you can go there to celebrate Halloween if you need extreme emotions. If you are a Wiccan follower, then that’s where you’ll feel at home all year round. It’s a spooky place where you feel as if you arrived in a mysterious place.
