You might think you know it all about holidays. But there are a few surprising facts related to Halloween you didn’t know!
Here are some of them:
1. Mocking the Devil
Ancient people celebrated All Hallows’ Eve. This is where Halloween takes its start. Early Christians strongly believed that the Devil exists. Instead of running, or trying to escape and hide from evil powers, they chose to attack him. They knew what his weakest spots were and used them against him. We know that Satan was once the Lord’s dearest angel. He then tried to compete with God trying to be as great as God. Nowadays people mock the Devil just the way the Devil tried to mock and copy God.
2. A Bit about Jack of the Lantern
Jack is a character from an Irish story. He was a thief and once the devil came to take his soul. Jack was smart and witty and knew how to make the devil let him keep his soul. Jack’s life was sinful and when he died he wasn’t allowed to enter Heaven. He was sent to Hell and since his soul did not belong to the devil, he could not stay there either. All the devil did was he took some burning ash, placed it into a turnip and gave the lantern to Jack. That’s where the name comes from. Now people light Jack-O-Lanterns at Halloween.
